Amani National Congress (ANC) youth leaders have criticized nominated MP Godfrey Osotsi over his threat to have Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa censored in Parliament.
The MP wants to sponsor an impeachment motion against the CS, accusing him of engaging in politics despite being a civil servant.
Mr Osotsi on Monday witnessed a brawl between the Cabinet secretary and Alego Usonga MP Sam Atandi at Kisumu International Airport over remarks Mr Echesa made against NASA leader Raila Odinga last weekend.
Emmanuel Buchichi, Kakamega ANC youth leader while addressing the media told the MP to support the CS in discharging his duties.
Buchichi alleged that Raila was using Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala and ODM Secretary Edwin Sifuna to have the CS relieved off his duties in an imminent Cabinet reshuffle by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“They should desist from fighting their own brother in exchange of kickbacks but support him in discharging his duties.” said Buchichi.
Mr Ken Manono, who is the ANC deputy head of campaign strategist, said in the next two weeks the party will discipline Osotsi if he will go ahead with his motion to have Echesa impeached.
Mr Manono warned Senator Malala for belittling the CS and ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi and asked him to either tore the line or work with Raila.
“We have put him on notice and we will impose disciplinary measures against him too. In the next two weeks, all rebels in ANC will be disciplined if they will not abide by the party rules,” Manono said.
He said they only recognize Mudavadi and Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetang’ula as leaders from Western Kenya and young turks cannot purport to speak on behalf of the community.
However, youths who support Mr Malala, Osotsi and Sifuna told off the ANC youth brigade that they cannot speak on behalf of ANC.
They accused them of being used to cause confusion in the region by defending people who don’t have the interests of the youths at heart in exchange of kickbacks.
Benjamin Wandala, Bunge la Vijana Secretary General, said the Sports CS should stop politicking and concentrate in discharging his duties at the Sports docket since he is not a politician.
“The constitution doesn’t allow a Cabinet secretary to engage himself in politics. If he wants to engage in politics, let him relinquish his position as CS,” said Wandala.
This comes at the backdrop after Mr Echesa over the weekend accused Raila of hatching a plot to have him sacked as Sports CS for being close to the Deputy President William Ruto.
