Nzoia Sugar Company acting manager Michael Kulundu has succumbed to injuries inflicted to him when he was abducted recently in Bungoma town.
Mr Kulundu died on Tuesday night at 11pm while receiving treatment at Nairobi hospital.
The acting MD was kidnapped, tortured by unknown people in Kanduyi on January 3, 2019 where he sustained panga injuries.
He was later found unconscious in a ditch 100 metres away from Salmond view hotel and guest house where it is alleged that he was having drinks with people who are not identified on the fateful day.
He was shortly admitted at Bungoma West private hospital where he was treated before being transferred to Eldoret and later on transferred to Nairobi hospital.
Medical reports showed that the late suffered from multiple injuries including a scar on the head, dislocated shoulder, cuts on the right hand, chest and lower limbs. The medical officers however said that he is in a stable condition and will soon recover.
A police report later revealed that the acting MD was kidnapped by three unknown people who were armed with pistols at a hotel situated along Kanduyi-Webuye highway.
Family members have expressed their deep grief following his demise describing him as a family man.
“He died yesterday at Nairobi hospital where he was receiving treatment. We have taken the body to Lee funeral home for preservation and a postmortem on a later date,” said a family member.
Family members of the late were found mourning in their home in Harambee, Matungu constituency in Kakamega County.
In a press release dated March 7, 2019, Nzoia sugar company board of directors’ chairman Joash Wamang’oli said that Mr. Kulundu has been on a routine follow-up with his physiotherapist in Nairobi hospital before his untimely death.
“Mr Kulundu and his family were having prayer sessions in the house in Nyayo, Embakasi before they could retire to bed when he collapsed. He was immediately rushed to a nearby health facility, Bristol park, where he was pronounced dead,” read part of the press release.
He added that the late had shown signs of recovering and it is unfortunate the promising face is no longer there.
He eulogized Kulundu as an astute engineer who has served the company in various capacities for over 25 years before being appointed as the acting managing director.
Bungoma senator Moses Wetang’ula has expressed his heartfelt condolences and asked the security department to conduct a speedy investigation in order to bring the suspects to book.
“I convey my sincere condolences to the family of Mr. Michael Kulundu and the entire Nzoia sugar fraternity. I urge the DCI to carry on with the investigations hastily to establish the circumstances that surrounded the death of the acting MD,” said the senator.
Bungoma County Women Rep, Catherine Wambilianga, also eulogized the late Mr Kulundu.
“I have received the sad news of passing on Mr Kulundu, I convey my heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and relatives at large. May the almighty God give strength at this painful moment,” said Ms Wambilianga.
